Beautiful; I remember Manfred Klein
spoke somewhere about doing artwork
(painting?) of just one letter.

Sorry I forgot to say thank you! I was thinking about Manfred Klein.
I have the book "Type and Typographers" that he co-wrote, but it is disappointingly badly written. His is the best writing in it, however.

Those rounded forms and the "ear" make me think of a little animal.

That's why it's called an ear.
But in this case it looks like sort of like a dog's ear on purpose.
