League of Movable Type

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 2, 2009, 2:37 AM
I'm going to be putting my fonts up at League of Movable Type, after all. They seem to have switched from Creative Commons to SIL Open Font License, and I have things set up so I can make OFL versions simply by running my scripts with "OFL" in the name of the font to generate. It should be easy to do this with the Goudy Oldstyle, though first I would want to fix the "eth" Icelandic character (which is too dark), and come up with a better name than "Goudy14", which I can’t stand.

I’m not sure what they would like me to do with my public domain fonts, since it is not within my capability to produce OFL versions of these except by making substantial revisions. I’m definitely not going to do this with GB1911, because I’m redrawing it from scratch instead (which is a big project, because those are difficult outlines to make), although Linden Hill (to wit, Deepdene) is something I personally want more. I want to hold a seance to scold Goudy for making the "s" so goofy, but overall it is a calming design, and I could use that. Also the bold is very dark and has potential similar to that of Cooper Black or Goudy Heavyface.

I am likely to try Linden Hill as the preferred typeface for this journal, instead of the current Palatino.

Sounds like a good idea.
Let me know how the seance goes!

I got in contact with Fred (he said to call him that). He retorted that séances are nonsense and so my scolding was pointless.

Maybe after he's been a ghost a little longer he'll change his mind.

He did tell me to stop people from going around saying that someone who letterspaced Old English capitals probably would shag sheep. What he actually said, he told me, was that Eric Gill was shagging his sister and his dog.

Then he faded out.
