One of my recent hobbies has been writing very concise and often cryptic movie reviews on Hulu.com. In the process I also read reviews. I have noticed that often people assume that what they see on the screen is a representation of the physical events as they are occurring, but this assumption is, in general, unjustified. People should understand that the film maker has freedom to represent the goings-on at any level of abstraction, from any person's point of view, without giving a clear signal that this is what is represented. Imagination can be represented by the imagined; a daydream may be represented by the daydream; insanity may be represented by its hallucinations, and its delusions may be confirmed as if they were true.
